The Wistful book is a publication designed by three designers to visually communicate narratives from McHenry County College’s English class.

The target audience for Wistful can include younger readers, but it is welcoming for anyone. This can include college students or those who are interested in reading personal narratives.

Many students write narratives and poems for their class, but never get to see their work come to life in a publication, taking away the passion for writing. The Wistful publication gives McHenry College’s Creative Writing class an opportunity to see their writing come to life through visual design. Highlighting both collaboration and storytelling between design and writing.

The publication Wistful approaches the students’ narrative and poems through friendly illustrations relating to key factors within their works. While being consistent through a playful yet subtle color scheme and style of illustration. The title Wistful is meant to create pace for its reader, slowing them down to engage with the illustrations and emotional depth of each piece.
